Here’s some of the amazing kaupapa and projects we’ve been involved in over the years.

From student-led projects, to kaupapa Māori research, to community engagement and restoration events, to consultancy and advisory roles, we have a breadth of experience working with marae, whānau, kura and kōhanga, NGO’s, GO’s, Ministries, Crown Research Institute’s and the community.

TE KURA MOANA

Tere ki uta, tere ki tai, whakaora moana, whai mai! In 2018, Mountains To Sea Wellington and Te Aho Tū Roa partnered to develop and deliver a kaupapa called Te Kura Moana. Funded by the Curious Minds fund, the project vision was to create opportunities for rangatahi and taiohi of kura Māori in the Te Upoko Te Ika and Raukawakawa Moana region to research traditional marine resource management techniques, explore protected and non-protected marine sites to compare abundance and health, and learn skills and tools to support ongoing research and monitoring. The kaupapa was developed from a Māori world view, drawing on traditional and mainstream knowledge systems and resources, bringing in external experts from the community, Māori scientists, mātanga Māori, and practitioners of customary harvesting, and delivered entirely in te reo Māori.

RANGITĀNE CULTURAL HEALTH MONITORING WĀNANGA

Mauri Ora Consulting was invited to support Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research with the delivery of a freshwater monitoring wānanga with Rangitāne to share skills and knowledge around Cultural Health Indicator monitoring and long-term freshwater system management.

HĪNONGA RIMURIMU - TE AHO TŪ ROA

Hīnonga Rimurimu is a collaboration between Te Aho Tū Roa and Mountains To Sea Wellington, creating opportunities for students of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngā Mokopuna to participate in the Love Rimurimu project in a full immersion reo Māori environment, guided by a Māori world view and approach to research and scientific exploration of the carbon sequestration abilities of various seaweed species around the local environment of the kura.

RĀNGAI RANGATAHI - YOUTH COLLECTIVE, ZEALANDIA

This project was designed to empower young people to develop a kaupapa for the Youth Collective, rooted in the goal to provide opportunities to connect young people with nature and conservation in Aotearoa. Through the opportunities and experiences, the young people helped to create a cohesive identity for the new Zealandia Youth Collective including a name and visual asset ideas. This project was co-designed by Mauri Ora Consulting, Zealandia Ecosanctuary, and StudioC, and based at Zealandia’s Ecosanctuary in Kaha-rore.
